For New Azadians
General Conduct
The most important thing which you should look forward to doing is: interact with your seniors. It’s necessary that you forge ties and make friendship with most of your hall mates. After all, no one wants himself to be a stranger to the very people he sees or dines with everyday. And seniors believe me, will be more than happy to know you, help you in your dilemmas and be there for you when you desperately need a guiding light. By the way, they do know that ragging is banned.
Mess Rules
We at Azad have etiquette or a code of conduct in general. And mess manners are something which has been passed on from seniors to juniors every year for quite a long time. Irrespective of the batch, we proudly follow these rules while dining, in the mess or otherwise. We urge our new young friends to follow suit. Its not difficult. The mess rules are:
1. Mess timings should be strictly followed.
2. Always maintain queue while waiting for food.
3. Donot leave any utensils on table.
4. Keep utensils on washing bay.
5. Donot leave bread crumbs, egg shells, etc. on table.
6. Always come in befitting clothes,i.e., no shorts or sleeveless.
7. Basic table manners & ettiquets should be followed like saying “excuse me” while getting up, “please” while askingfor an item & “see you” while leaving.
8. Keep the chair back in place after getting up.
9. Donot speak loudly in the mess.
10. Donot wipe your hands with curtains.
11. Keep your book, bag on side table.
12. Donot take utensils out of mess.
13. Please avoid wastage of food.
Where to Complain about the infrastructure:
Most of the times, a lot of things are left in a pitiful state because we are not aware of the proper avenues to voice the associated shortcomings. If you find that the lightings in your wing corridor are missing or damaged, go and tell the mess manager immediately or lodge a complaint in the complaint register kept in the mess. The same applies for any of the civil works including broken or damaged furnishings in the bathrooms. If you have trouble with any of the electric stuff like your fan, you can always go to the electrical service center (ESC) located behind MMM hall ( use the narrow walkway between the Patel hall and the PAN loop entry). It is important that you keep your room and surroundings clean. In fact, make sure that your wing corridors are cleaned regularly and if you feel that there needs to be an improvement in that section, do drop in at the mess manager’s office. It is your hall, and if you don’t take the initiative to keep it clean, nobody else will. After all, you have to stay and make your presence felt in this hall for the remaining 3(or 4) years of your KGP life.
Hostel Life
Looking forward to events and joining hostel clubs must be in your to-do list of things this autumn sem. Events classified into open IIT, intra-hostel fresher events and inter-hall will be held in all fields from sports to cultural from time to time (almost every week). Do not miss out on these. You will always be able to find a group of people in Azad, who have similar interests as you (eg. Painting, football, Tech, dramatics, elocution, athletics, swimming). Contact the General Secretaries and the captains of the respective events/hobbies to make the most of your extra-academic life. And please please please, a word of advice here from all your seniors as a batch and your well-wishers -> do not get caught in the “counterstrike/aoe” web and ruin your life. Your seniors already have much bitter experiences of this than they can bear from your batch.
How to use the website
It’s a portal where you can speak your heart out, make contacts and look out for important info regarding all current hall activities, and this will always be kept up-to-date
